Lindsay has been a Client Advocate with Avenue Women’s Center for over 5 years! We asked her to share two typical stories (with the names changed and with permission from these clients!).
“Alisha and Jacob* walked into Avenue Women’s Center asking about our abortion services. Avenue Women’s Center doesn’t provide abortions, but I explained the free help we offer, including decision-making support. Alisha and Jacob decided to use our free services as they navigated this unplanned pregnancy. Alisha was a hard-working college student who heard about Avenue Women’s Center from someone she trusts. Alisha and Jacob discussed parenting, adoption, and abortion. They processed many tough questions and decided that abortion was the best choice for them. Alisha knew she had our care no matter what. We kept in touch before and after the abortion. Alisha said, “Thank you for checking up on us. Honestly, it means a lot that you care.” Alisha and Jacob still feel confident about their decision. Alisha told me, ‘I’m very happy—I still think about our child often, but not in a sad way.’”
“Sarah* was terrified when her pregnancy test came back positive. She was going to college in the fall, had just left her boyfriend, and felt too young to have a baby. On top of that, she was worried that her dad would kick her out! Sarah remembered seeing a pregnanthelp.com booth at her high school health fair the year before so she gave us a call. Sarah received a free pregnancy test and ultrasound and got information about all her options. She decided to parent, so I helped her make a plan for telling her parents and connected her with other support services in her area. Sarah is now a working professional, a nursing, student, and the parent of a beautiful daughter. In an email, Sarah told me, ‘You were the first to tell me that I could actually do this—and everything has turned out fine, just like you said it would.’”
