Your Unique Challenges
Here are just a few reasons why an unexpected pregnancy may be especially challenging for an international student like you.
- Your education is probably an important focus in your life right now. You may be busy with your studies, under pressure to succeed, and afraid that this pregnancy will take you off the academic path you’ve started.
- You’re away from your home and family. Not only are you adjusting to a new environment and culture, but you’re probably feeling a lack of emotional support… especially if you’re coping with language barriers. You may also be unsure how to include your loved ones back home in your pregnancy journey when your access to them is limited.
- You may be unfamiliar with pregnancy options and resources in the country where you’re studying. If you’re attending an American school or university, perhaps you already know that abortion laws vary significantly by state. This can make them very difficult to understand, even for people who were born and raised in the U.S. Undocumented individuals may have particular questions and concerns about their legal rights, health care options, potential risks, etc.
