Pregnancy Symptoms

If you’re experiencing any of the following symptoms, you may be pregnant. However, the best way to find out is to take an in-clinic pregnancy test. Do any of these sound familiar?

  1. Missed period(s)
  2. Breast changes or tenderness
  3. An increased need to urinate
  4. Feeling nauseous or sick to your stomach (“morning sickness”)
  5. Always feeling tired

Not every woman experiences the same symptoms. Some may miss a period but never feel sick to their stomach. Others feel nauseous from the very beginning.

The Pregnancy Test

A pregnancy test works by testing your urine for the hormone hCG. Your body only makes the hCG hormone if you’re pregnant. However, your body needs time to develop detectable levels of hCG. If you take the test too soon, the hormone will not show up. Usually, a home pregnancy test is done 7 to 10 days after your missed period. At Avenue Women’s Center, our medical-grade pregnancy tests are over 99.5% accurate just 10 days after conception. Plus, it is entirely free and confidential. Only you and your pregnancy consultant will know the result of your test.

How long does it take?

Your time is valuable. With 6 locations throughout Chicago’s suburbs, it’s easy to find a center near you. We encourage you to make an appointment, but we’re always prepared for walk-ins too.  Upon arriving at the clinic, you will be brought back to a private room for your appointment. After administering your pregnancy test, results are available within a matter of minutes. At that time, your pregnancy consultant will review your test results with you privately and discuss your next steps.

What if I receive a positive result?

If your test is positive, the next step is to discuss your pregnancy options with your pregnancy consultant. We understand that your pressures and concerns are unique. You will have time to address your individual questions and concerns with an expert pregnancy consultant. Depending on your preferences, we can work with you on the next steps that are best for you. There is never any pressure to take further action the same day as your pregnancy test. In fact, with a positive pregnancy test, we recommend a waiting period for most women while they carefully consider their options. We want you to have time and space to comfortably make your best decision.
