“Considering Abortion Because I Don’t Have a Place to Call ‘Home’”

What does home mean to you?  Is it a place to live alongside loved ones?  Somewhere that feels safe?  A fixed shelter that meets your basic needs?  Any and all these definitions could be true, but none of them has to fit the traditional mold of owning, renting, or living beneath a parent’s roof.  Not having a place to call “home” may look very different for you than it would for someone else.  But if you’re feeling this way about your present circumstances, your life probably seems at least a little adrift right now.  This may be especially challenging to face if you’re also coping with an unexpected pregnancy.

Avenue Women’s Center is here for you no matter what you’re confronting today.  We’ve been a trusted resource since 1981!  Avenue provides no-cost early pregnancy services, like medical-grade pregnancy tests and limited medical ultrasounds, to persons facing an unexpected pregnancy in Chicagoland, Illinois and beyond.

What’s Your Situation Like?

Maybe you’d identify yourself as a “drifter” or “nomad.” Perhaps you’re residing with relatives temporarily, or in a mobile shelter, like a car or bus.  Maybe you’re living on the streets because you’ve fallen on hard times.  It’s even possible that you technically have a home, but the place you live doesn’t feel like one because it isn’t a loving environment.  A person’s reasons for being without a home can be extremely diverse too.  Sometimes, living outside the conventional framework of a “home” is a choice.  Sometimes, it’s a necessity due to financial loss, safety risks, or other factors.   What do all these scenarios have in common?  Each and every one of them could apply to someone who’s facing an unexpected pregnancy, causing her to feel more uprooted than ever.

Meeting You Where You Are

Most people have a vision of how they’d want their life to look if they ever became pregnant.  Navigating these circumstances without a place to call home probably isn’t what you had in mind, if pregnancy is something you’ve desired for your future at all.  Most of us strive to create a stable, well-resourced environment for ourselves and our families, but life is unpredictable and unjust sometimes.  Sadly, it’s all too easy for those dreams to go unfulfilled.  Maybe you’re leaning toward abortion because your present situation isn’t conducive to pregnancy or parenting.  That’s a really tough place to find yourself, especially if you wish to keep your other options on the table.  Our caring staff at Avenue Women’s Center is passionate about meeting women in that difficult space and equipping them with the tools they need to carry on with strength and confidence.

The Value of Free First-Step Pregnancy Services

Our no-cost early pregnancy services at Avenue are designed to educate persons on their pregnancy, their options, and all the resources available to them.  Confirming that you’re pregnant is a critical first step.  Afterwards, it may be important to learn information like where your pregnancy is located and whether you’re at risk for miscarriage in order to make an informed pregnancy choice while being mindful of your own health.  Our expert staff at Avenue is available to explain the ins and outs of all your pregnancy options (abortion, adoption, and parenting).  This is a safe, confidential space to ask questions and receive support from compassionate, highly trained professionals.
