“Considering Abortion Because I Don’t Have Good Healthcare”

It can feel discouraging when the challenges we face in life (like financial stress or the loss of support, for example) hinder us from pursuing pathways that would otherwise be open to us.  Almost everyone deals with this to some extent, during some seasons of life. Maybe restricted access to quality healthcare is one significant challenge that you’re contending with today.  If so, you may find that this limitation is influencing some of the important decisions you’re making.  Real-world difficulties tend to have that effect.

Are you experiencing an unexpected pregnancy during a time when you don’t have good healthcare?  Perhaps you’re considering an abortion- not necessarily because you want to terminate, but because you don’t see another feasible option.  You may be concerned that, if gestation were to continue, you wouldn’t have access to the medical support you’d need during the pregnancy.  If parenting is an alternative that you’re drawn to, maybe you’re more worried about meeting the baby’s medical needs post-birth.

If any of this strikes a chord, know that there’s support available.  You’re not alone!  Avenue Women’s Center is here to provide first-step pregnancy services at no cost, and to help you connect with additional resources that could help as you navigate your decision-making process.

Your Health and Safety Matter Most!

If quality health care is something that you value, chances are, you care about getting your needs met promptly and with excellence.  That’s a good thing!  Your wellness and safety should be the highest priorities, and at Avenue Women’s Center, we treat them as such.  We’re committed to helping every woman who connects with us get her health needs addressed- physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

It’s important to consider that every pregnancy option (abortion, adoption, and parenting) involves a medical process.  So, it’s wise to learn about available medical resources no matter which way you’re leaning.  If you decide that abortion is your best way forward, you may be better equipped to continue along this path with your safety in mind having learned about the healthcare resources available to you.  If you decide that you don’t want to terminate, these same resources could open up a different path by removing barriers, like the absence of quality care.  There are only advantages to learning about the healthcare-related resources your community has to offer.  Avenue Women’s Center is available to help you take the critical step of exploring these, while accessing free early pregnancy support, no matter which pregnancy option(s) you’re leaning toward.

How Can Avenue Women’s Center Help?

Our no-cost, confidential first-step pregnancy services at Avenue include lab-quality pregnancy tests, limited medical ultrasounds, options consultations, and more!  An options consultation can help you process your test result, while learning about the pregnancy options available to you.  The consultation is also a time to discuss community resources, some of which may be highly beneficial if you don’t have health insurance or believe that your current plan isn’t meeting your needs.  Here are some of the additional resources we can offer information on in the Chicagoland area.

  • Medicaid Presumptive Eligibility (MPE) Program. A program for pregnant individuals, which temporarily covers outpatient healthcare costs.
  • Moms and Babies. Covers inpatient and outpatient hospital costs during the pregnancy and for 60 days after the birth.  This program also covers services to the baby throughout her first year.
  • All Kids. An Illinois program, allowing children to access holistic and affordable healthcare no matter the family’s income level or immigration status.
  • FamilyCare Assist. Pays healthcare costs for a parent and her children.
  • WIC (Supplemental Food Program)/Medicaid assistance.
  • Additional financial and healthcare-related programs and services.

Avenue Women’s Center is a limited medical clinic based in Chicagoland, Illinois.  We are not a provider of ongoing prenatal care.  We strive to help women address their comprehensive health needs by offering free early pregnancy support, along with information on additional resources.  If you have an existing health insurance plan, contact your provider to learn more about the services that your plan covers.

As mentioned before, it’s normal to experience seasons of life when resources are limited.  Circumstances like these are often beyond our control.  However, there are aspects of this unexpected pregnancy situation that you do have autonomy over… like your ability to explore available resources, pursue various means of assistance, and make an informed pregnancy decision.  It is possible to continue your decision-making process with a surplus of support rather than a limited supply, even if you’re facing financial or healthcare-related challenges.  Expanding your support network could be key to empowering yourself for your own best decision.  Our expert team at Avenue would love to partner with you on this journey!

Call, text, chat, or email to schedule an appointment today!  We have six convenient locations in Darien, Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn / Lombard, Naperville, West Chicago, and Wood Dale, Illinois.
