Getting Pregnant Was Not the Plan

Maybe you feel pressured to abort because having another child may not have been in your financial plan. Perhaps you are already struggling with balancing your current family with a job or school. While there are days where you feel certain about going through with your abortion decision, there may be some days where you wake up leaning towards another choice. Adding to potential feelings of anxiety is the possibility that the relationship with the child’s father is a complicated one, and this may be helping to create conflicting emotions when it comes to making a pregnancy decision.

Where to Go from Here

It’s understandable that you might feel anxious about an unexpected pregnancy, especially if the presence of another child in your life has you worried about how your pregnancy will affect him or her. How do you move forward in deciding what is best for you and your family? One important first step is to take some time to gather more information and sort through your options. Although your situation may feel very time-sensitive, often women have several days and even weeks to spend time taking everything in. Think through potential pros and cons of each pregnancy option. How will each option look now vs in 5-10 years? How does this impact your family? Is there local support or assistance available? What does your partner think/feel? Not everything has to be decided in the span of one moment. Allowing yourself time to breathe helps when making an informed decision and can lead you to feel empowered in the choice you made, as it came from yourself and not external pressures.
