In life, most everyone experiences at least one season of working part-time. Many of us get a part-time job to help pay for school, or to earn a little extra for the family. Others may have difficulty finding full-time employment, or may simply enjoy a fulfilling part-time position. Regardless of the circumstances and level of job satisfaction, a period of part-time work can be a challenging time to encounter an unexpected pregnancy. This is especially true when the economy is in disarray and the cost of living is high. But, with a little effort and creativity, it is possible to custom-build a pregnancy plan that works with your life.
Avenue Women’s Center offers free, confidential first-step pregnancy services because our number one priority is the health of women in our community and beyond. No matter your employment status, our pregnancy consultants are here to provide valuable information and strengthen your support system. No paycheck, or lack of income, should be the final authority over a woman’s pregnancy choice.

Making Ends Meet on a Part-Time Paycheck is Tough!
Part-time positions have many upsides, including flexibility and more capacity for spare time. However, if you’ve ever worked part-time, you’re probably aware that these jobs don’t always offer employment benefits or competitive pay. This can definitely create financial stress for a woman who finds herself pregnant. Does this describe your situation? Chances are, if you’re considering the option of parenting, you’re concerned about meeting your own health needs during this season of pregnancy. Not to mention the cost of taking care of a child, if you decided to parent! Supporting yourself on one (or even two) part-time paychecks is hard enough, especially in these financially difficult times.
Empowerment through Education and Resources
The courageous women who visit our Avenue centers come from all walks of life. We’re here to help each person design a pregnancy plan that works with her employment status and overall situation. Taking a lab-quality pregnancy test (like the ones we offer at Avenue) is a practical first step toward confirming the pregnancy. Our limited medical clinics also offer early pregnancy ultrasounds to assess for risks such as miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy located outside of the uterus), as well as how far along a woman may be. Each of our clients has an opportunity to meet with a knowledgeable pregnancy consultant, who can provide reliable information on all her options and educate her on the many practical resources available. Prenatal care, insurance (during this pregnancy and beyond), financial and employment services, housing support, and educational resources are more accessible than many people realize. It’s our job to bridge the gap between women and these services, which were tailor-made to meet their needs!
Building a Strong Support System
Whether you’re leaning toward abortion, adoption, or parenting, our expert staff at Avenue wants to be a part of your support system. We also recognize the important role that partners, family members, and friends may play in your life and on your pregnancy journey. Supporters and confidantes may be your greatest resource of all as you navigate the road ahead. Whether you’re missing the encouragement that you need or just want to strengthen your support system, an Avenue pregnancy consultant is available to back you and help connect you with a support group or parenting class. Regardless of your pregnancy decision, there’s a supportive community available to you!
