Are you facing an unexpected pregnancy and wondering where to turn for help?  Whether you’re looking for practical assistance or reliable information, getting personalized and professional care will likely mean disclosing your pregnancy news to someone other than your partner.  Many women facing circumstances like yours need additional emotional support too.  But what if your significant other doesn’t want you to tell anyone about this pregnancy?

Maybe your partner is a private individual who feels most comfortable keeping this sensitive matter between the two of you.  Or, perhaps there’s some aspect of this situation that he’s hoping to hide.  Either of these may be true for you.  Avenue Women’s Center is available to help you navigate your unique pregnancy journey, regardless of the dynamics involved.  We offer free and confidential early pregnancy services, including medical-grade pregnancy tests and limited medical ultrasounds.

Call, text, chat or email to learn more!  We have five limited medical clinics in Chicagoland, Illinois, and we provide virtual consultations as well!

If You Feel Comfortable Confiding in Your Partner…

An unexpected pregnancy is bound to be a very personal situation for both partners.  It’s understandable if your partner feels anxious about sharing this news.  Still, it’s vital for you to access all the comprehensive support you need to make an empowered and informed pregnancy decision.  If you require a diverse set of resources in order to move forward confidently, that’s okay!  Many individuals facing circumstances like yours would say the same.

Consider having an honest conversation with your partner about your need for additional pregnancy help.  Hear out his concerns and validate his emotions while setting clear boundaries.  At the end of the day, this pregnancy decision is yours. You deserve to feel fully supported and equipped for this important step.  Explain what kind of pregnancy support you need and why you need it.  Brainstorm ways you can access that support while protecting your privacy and your partner’s.  Maybe, once he’s able to voice his own feelings and be a part of this dialogue, he’ll be receptive to you reaching out for additional help.

Avenue Women’s Center would be an excellent place to begin.  We’re a first-step pregnancy center that’s all about providing the fundamental tools for a healthy decision-making process.  At Avenue, we respect women’s autonomy and help them lean into their strengths while developing their support networks.  We begin sessions by meeting with women one-on-one to process their pregnancy test results and unique circumstances.  If you feel comfortable including your partner in a consultation, we can invite him in to learn about and discuss your options by your side.

If You Don’t Feel Comfortable Confiding in Your Partner…

Know that it’s still completely possible to access all the pregnancy support you need to make your own best decision while prioritizing your health and safety.  Avenue Women’s Center is here to help you achieve this, regardless of the situation with your partner.  Here are a few reasons why Avenue may be an especially safe and effective resource for you.

  • We’re fully committed to protecting confidentiality. We carefully follow your communication preferences. All of our services are free, and we don’t require insurance. That means your visit won’t show up on a bank or insurance statement.
  • We can connect you with a wide variety of referrals, including medical and safety resources.

*If your partner is pressuring you to stay silent or make a decision you don’t want, this could be a warning sign of coercion or abuse.  Contact 911 immediately if you ever feel that your safety or somebody else’s is at risk.  To get connected with support, you can also reach out to the National Domestic Violence Hotline. The Hotline is free, confidential, and available 24/7.

*Avenue Women’s Center does not provide direct domestic abuse services.  In addition to providing first-step pregnancy services, we offer referrals for individuals who need domestic abuse support.

It’s never easy when someone important in your life- maybe someone that you love- is preventing you from getting the help that you need (whether intentionally or unintentionally).  Our caring pregnancy consultants and medical professionals are here to walk with you through these difficult circumstances.  When you connect with us, we promise you’ll be met with unconditional empathy and support you can rely on.  We offer a safe, comfortable, private space to access the accurate and unbiased information you’re looking for.
