“I Wasn’t Trying to Prevent Pregnancy. Now I’m Having Regrets.”

All of us have regrets when it comes to our past experiences.  It’s a terrible, powerless feeling to wish you could change something that’s happened, knowing that you can’t.  Maybe you’re wrapping your mind around an unexpected pregnancy today.  Do you find yourself questioning some decisions that led to this point?  Perhaps you were told getting pregnant would be medically improbable, or you weren’t focused on this particular risk, so you didn’t try to prevent it.  Maybe at some point, you felt okay with the idea of possibly getting pregnant.  But now that you’re holding a positive pregnancy test in your hands, you realize how significant and scary these circumstances can be.

It’s healthy to acknowledge regret.  But nobody has to dwell in feelings of shame or disappointment forever.  Difficult experiences can be harnessed to shape your life story in positive ways.  If you’re processing an unexpected pregnancy right now, and you’re struggling with regret, our caring team at Avenue Women’s Center would love to partner with you on your pregnancy journey.

Avenue Women’s Center has been a trusted provider of early pregnancy services for over forty years!  It’s our mission to help persons facing circumstances like yours access the practical resources and emotional support they need to carry on with hope and peace.

An Overwhelming Situation

An unexpected pregnancy can feel overwhelming for many different reasons.  Each pregnancy option (abortion, adoption, and parenting) brings its own risks.  If your partner, family, or friends know about the pregnancy, they’ll probably have complex thoughts and feelings to process- as will you.  In fact, this entire subject is deeply private, publicly controversial, and extremely sensitive all at once.  But many people don’t discover this for themselves until it’s too late to take preventive steps.

Accepting the Past and Moving Forward

Although this is easier said than done, it’s important to accept where your life journey has led you, and to acknowledge the role your past decisions have played.  The circumstances surrounding your pregnancy may be very complex.  Other people may have influenced this outcome.  But, if your pregnancy resulted from consensual sex, taking ownership of your pregnancy journey will involve accepting responsibility.

Avenue Women’s Center is dedicated to helping women find clarity and strength by learning about their pregnancy, resources, and available avenues.  None of your pregnancy options can erase what’s happened.  All of them come with challenges.  Some that seem to promise a solution may lead to more regret.  That’s why our staff recommends learning the ins and outs of abortion, adoption, and parenting before moving forward with a decision.  However, it’s definitely possible to pursue a positive outcome no matter how regrettable your past choices may seem.  Avenue is here to help you begin that process today!

Our services at Avenue Women’s Center include lab-quality pregnancy tests, limited medical ultrasounds, options consultation, and more!  We’ve got your back, no matter the choices you made yesterday or where your path will lead tomorrow.  You’ll be met with warmth and understanding every time you connect with one of our expert staff members.
