“I’m Keeping the Pregnancy if it’s Twins. If it’s One, I’m Aborting.”

“Am I pregnant with one or more?” is a question that’s commonly asked by women experiencing unexpected and intentional pregnancies alike.  Of course, nobody knows the answer to this until they seek guidance from a medical professional.  But perhaps you have a particular reason to believe that you may be pregnant with twins.  This may run in your family, or you may be having extra-intense early pregnancy symptoms that are causing you to wonder.  Do you have a strategy in mind for how to proceed, depending on what your ultrasound reveals?  Maybe you’re planning to continue the pregnancy if it’s twins and end the pregnancy if it’s just one.

Avenue Women’s Center is here to help you make an informed choice backed by reliable data and caring support.  We champion women coping with unexpected pregnancies by offering confidential, high-quality early pregnancy services at no cost.  As your journey continues, know that you’re capable of identifying and leaning into your own best pregnancy outcome.  Our compassionate and knowledgeable team is available to navigate that road by your side.

Acknowledging Your Feelings (Even If They’re Confusing)

For some women, the number of pregnancies being carried really does have a significant impact on the decision-making process.  Sometimes, it can be a deciding factor in the choice between parenting and getting an abortion.  If the title of this blog describes your plan at the moment, you may feel this way for a specific reason that you’re able to identify.  Or, maybe you’re not sure why you’re drawn to two very different outcomes depending on whether it’s one or more.  Perhaps doing the opposite (keeping a single pregnancy and aborting twins) even makes more sense to you from a logical perspective, but you still can’t help but feel the way you feel.  Hang in there!  Confusion and anxiety may be some of your strongest emotions right now, but there’s never any shame in feeling torn.

It’s okay if you don’t understand right now why you’re drawn to certain pregnancy options based on certain factors.  Making an unexpected pregnancy decision is an emotionally complex and confusing process for most people.  It’s healthy to acknowledge the presence of your feelings and drives, whether or not they make sense to you at this stage of your journey.  Ask yourself where they’re coming from while accepting that insight may come with time.

Contemplating Other Critical Factors

Whether or not you understand the why behind your feelings, there are other important dynamics to consider as you engage in your decision-making process.  Reflect on these as well!  Carefully considering a variety of factors will allow you to feel more grounded in your choice for abortion, adoption, or parenting when the time comes to take that step.

Basic information about your pregnancy (or pregnancies).

There’s other key information to be learned about your pregnancy besides the question of whether or not you’re carrying twins… information that could affect which option(s) you’re eligible for in the first place.  A limited medical ultrasound at Avenue can tell you how far along you are, your chances of miscarriage, and the location of your pregnancy.  If it’s outside of the uterus (an ectopic pregnancy), it wouldn’t be viable, and you’d need medical care beyond an abortion right away.

Reliable facts about your options and resources.

Learn the processes and possible risks involved with each of your three pregnancy options: abortion, adoption, and parenting.  Knowing the ins and outs will equip you to make the most informed decision possible (which never hurts!).  What you discover might also give you additional insight into your own feelings about the potential outcomes available to you.  During a free consultation at Avenue, our expert staff can provide all this information in language that’s clear, caring, and easy to understand.  We’re also here to help you identify other impactful resources that your community offers.

Your values and beliefs.

These may be closely related to your instincts and feelings concerning your pregnancy options.  They’re usually deeply rooted, and always crucial to consider.  Ask yourself what you value most in life, and what principles you believe in most strongly.  Is it possible that these influences are pointing you a particular way?

No matter what circumstances you’re facing or how complex your emotions are, our expert pregnancy consultants and nurses at Avenue are here to support you.  We offer a safe space to receive compassionate and confidential care with no pressure or judgment.  If, for any reason, you’re having mixed feelings about your available pregnancy outcomes, reach out to us!  We’re available to provide accurate and holistic information on all your options.
