A normal menstrual cycle can be stressful enough. But, when something about your period becomes just a little off, you might become anxious. While there can be perfectly reasonable explanations for changes to your period, maybe it’s causing you a lot of stress that you really don’t have the time or energy to deal with right now. You might be wondering if you have a medical condition or even if you could somehow be pregnant. Both of these possibilities can be a lot to think about!

Steps to Dealing With Anxiety
Uncertainty and doubt can make us feel anxious. We might be searching for the right or perfect answer but unable to arrive at a conclusion. Perhaps you feel unsettled at your period being off and you just want to feel okay again. While figuring out why your period is late, early, missed, or whatever it may be, there are some solid things you can do to take care of yourself.
Practicing Self-Care
Sometimes when feeling anxious we forget to do even basic things. And, sometimes, we need a little extra relaxation or pampering to help us calm down. It might be a good idea to do things such as:
- Rest is important to help us process information and make plans to go forward.
- Eat and Drink. If we don’t have fuel, or if we’re dehydrated, the way we act and think can be impaired. Eat a healthy meal or snack and make sure to drink water!
- Take time to wash up and relax in a shower or bath. Sometimes just being clean can help us feel brand new and ready to take on the world.
- Slow Down. Taking time to rest and pursue our hobbies, listen to music, or just take a peaceful walk can help us reconnect with ourselves and clear our minds to deal with stressful situations.
Steps to Certainty
Now that you’ve taken time to care for yourself, it’s important to find out if there is a possible problem on your hands. There are a variety of reasons a period might be off, including stress or anxiety!
However, it never hurts to be certain of where you stand. Speaking with your healthcare provider is a great step toward figuring out what’s going on in your body. And, if you’re anxious about the possibility of pregnancy, it can be reassuring to take a pregnancy test. However, it’s important to remember that many factors can affect home pregnancy test results.
It can be painful to keep fretting about unknown circumstances. Find out for sure today at Avenue Women’s Center. We provide free, medical-grade pregnancy tests which are accurate just ten days after possible conception. Regardless of your results, one of our caring consultants can talk you through the next steps regarding your feelings of anxiety or even pregnancy decisions. We’d love to support you during this stressful time of your life and help ease your fears in any way we can.
