Taking Time to Process
Making decisions about your pregnancy is a big deal. One of those decisions is about who you’re going to tell and allow to help and support you. Maybe the idea of telling your parents about your pregnancy sounds stressful. Sharing something like this with them could seem overwhelming. You may find it helpful to take time to process your news for a bit before sharing it with them. Taking time to gather your thoughts and think about how you’d like to share could be a good first step.
Questions to Ask Yourself
If you aren’t sure about sharing with your parents, it may be helpful to ask yourself some questions. Such as, if you don’t share this news with them, is it possible they will find out anyway? How might they feel about that? How would you feel? And, could sharing this news with them make your relationship closer? How might it open up ways for them to help or support you at this time?
How We Can Help
If it makes you nervous to share your pregnancy with your parents, there are ways to have an open conversation with them while being supported by others. Our caring consultants at Avenue Women’s Center are happy to mediate important and difficult conversations so that you don’t have to feel alone.
We can also provide a free and confidential medical-grade pregnancy test that shows accurate results just ten days after possible conception. By taking the first steps to confirm your pregnancy and receive information on your options, perhaps you would feel more confident in sharing your news.
Safety and Support First
Most of all, it is important that you feel supported and safe. If you ever don’t feel safe in your home situation, you should reach out for help. Hopefully, your parents are supportive and accepting people who will give you the time and space to express yourself as well as come alongside you in the way that you need.
Don’t let uncertainty rule your life or your decisions. Let Avenue Women’s Center support and walk with you through this unexpected time of your life and beyond. We would love to help you in whatever ways we can to make your journey a bit easier.
