We once surveyed our patients, asking “What is the main reason you chose us?” Patient responses varied. We heard everything from “I’m going through a bad divorce” to “It just sounded like something I should do.” But there were also clear themes that shone through. Most of our patients chose us for:
Trust. Over half of the responses indicated that our patients felt connected with us. Some had been referred to us by their friends or trusted doctors / counselors. Others had found us on the internet, but could tell – in their first phone call – that we truly cared about their situation.
Services. Some of the patients wrote this one as “Helpfulness.” Our patients have not planned parenthood. Abortion is the reality they’re facing. They need to know that a non-judgmental staff is available to provide free and confidential services they need.
Cost. Many women facing unplanned pregnancy are not prepared to deal with the unexpected cost that’s involved. Some do not have insurance.. or do not want family members to see that they’ve accessed their insurance. Our clinic was launched as a nonprofit limited medical clinic to ensure that all women have access to quality care. We provide many free and confidential services to make sure that is true.
Convenience. Everyone has limits in their schedules. When a woman is contemplating abortion, she doesn’t need the extra burden of trying to twist her schedule to meet a clinic’s limitations. We offer a variety of hours, including Saturday mornings. And we have five pregnancy help centers – in Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn / Lombard, Naperville, West Chicago, and Wood Dale, Illinois. Our patients regularly express appreciation that we offer free confidential help at times and locations that were convenient for them.
We were glad to see the responses from those surveys – glad to know that we are being successful in our mission to help women!
